Record #122872:

Glacial octahedron / Stephen R. Hicock.

Title: Glacial octahedron / Stephen R. Hicock.
Author(s): Hicock, Stephen R.
Date: 1993.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (1993.), Vol. 75A(1-2) (1993)
Abstract: Presents conceptual diagram that aids in visualizing glacial processes and their effects. Applied to subglacial processes and products, with ice, water, and till-forming processes occupying six corners of octahedron. Symbols plotted within octahedron represent relative importance of processes/products involved. Bent arrows within diagram trace history of processes/effects at site or area. Octahedron emphasizes glacial processes/products as transitional interrelated phenomena within continuum rather than as end-members. Two examples demonstrate contrasting uses of octahedron: subglacial history of two lobe complexes at margin of Laurentide ice sheet, and changing depositional settings during cyclic marinal grounding of tidewater glacier.
