Development of an airborne MMW FM-CW radar for mapping river ice / Norbert E. Yankielun, Michael G. Gerrick, Patricia B. Weyrick.
Title: | Development of an airborne MMW FM-CW radar for mapping river ice / Norbert E. Yankielun, Michael G. Gerrick, Patricia B. Weyrick. |
Author(s): | Yankielun, Norbert E. Gerrick, Michael G. Weyrick, Patricia B. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | CRREL Report. (1993.), Vol. 93-1 (1993) |
Abstract: | High-resolution millimetre-wave (26.5 to 40 GHz) frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar with real-time data acquisition and digital signal processing and display capability was deployed from low-flying (3 to 10 m) helicopter to acquire, process and display data during ice-thickness profiling survey of 24 km reach of Connecticut River. Nominal sheet-ice thickness of 50 cm, occasional areas of thin (5 cm) ice, open leads, and massive ice accumulations (5 m) were encountered. System provided rapid, safe and accurate data acquisition. |
