Record #122825:

Basal ice accretion and debris entrainment within the coastal ice margin, Law Dome, Antarctica / Ian D. Goodwin.

Title: Basal ice accretion and debris entrainment within the coastal ice margin, Law Dome, Antarctica / Ian D. Goodwin.
Author(s): Goodwin, Ian D.
Date: 1993.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 39(131) (1993)
Abstract: Study carried out in 1985 and 1987 revealed basal accretion of clean and debris-bearing ice, marine congelation and granular marine ice inland of margin. Co-isotopic analysis and solute chemistry were applied to determine modes of accretion and entrainment. Marine congelation ice and granular marine ice were formed, respectively, from basal freezing of desalinated sea water and episodic mixture of basal meltwater and sea water. Debris-banded ice with debris concentrations of 6.3 to 33% by volume was formed from proglacial raised beach and shallow marine sediment incorporated by overriding advance of ice margin. Debris-poor ice and laminated debris ice (0.9 to 1.9% by volume) were accreted further inland by basal regelation processes.
