Record #122823:

Statistics of firn closures: a simulation study / I.G. Enting.

Title: Statistics of firn closures: a simulation study / I.G. Enting.
Author(s): Enting, I. G.
Date: 1993.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 39(131) (1993)
Abstract: Assesses influence of critical fluctuations in firn-closure process on dating of gas samples trapped in polar ice. Main result is that mean trapping time is relatively independent of sample size over range of interest. Over this range, sample-to-sample variation in mean trapping time is confined to range that is small compared to time over which most of closure takes place. Simulations also suggest that for gases with rapid changes in atmospheric concentrations, and for which mean trapping time is not applicable, critical fluctuations may affect trapped gas concentrations significantly.
