| Abstract: | Four boreholes in this small valley glacier were inspected by means of video camera, and apparent glacier bed was filmed in two boreholes. In one hole, bed was found to be composed of soft sediment and, in other hole, it consisted of bedrock. Here, camera moved 5.6 mm relative to bed during 80 min period. Recorded camera movement showed background motion which is in expected range of basal sliding. Superimposed on background motion, jerky motion of high-speed spike was detected, which is interpreted as stress release induced by local topography at ice-bed interface. |
