Record #122819:

A tutorial on the use of control methods in ice-sheet modeling / Douglas R. MacAyeal.

Title: A tutorial on the use of control methods in ice-sheet modeling / Douglas R. MacAyeal.
Author(s): MacAyeal, Douglas R.
Date: 1993.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1993.), Vol. 39(131) (1993)
Abstract: Control methods are recommended for estimating undetermined physical parameters and boundary conditions and, in so doing, for improving fidelity of given model to specific velocity observations. To accomplish this, underlying dynamics of model are inverted, which permits model-tuning adjustmants to be represented explicitly in terms of model/observation misfit. Discusses advantages of control method over trial-and-error techniques in common use.
