Record #122810:
Spacing of icicles / Lasse Makkonen, Yutaka Fujii.
Title: | Spacing of icicles / Lasse Makkonen, Yutaka Fujii. |
Author(s): | Makkonen, Lasse. Fujii, Yutaka. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Cold Regions Science and Technology. (1993.), Vol. 21(3) (1993) |
Abstract: | Deals with formation of icicles due to freezing of precipitation or sea spray on structures. Estimation of ice loads is accurate only if size and spacing of icicles is known. Presents theory and results of wind tunnel experiments on spacing of icicles formed at moderate wind speeds. Results show that spacing on elongated horizontal objects oriented perpendicular to wind direction is 2 cm, regardless of growth conditions. |
