Abstract: Book starts with tributes to Bering at his commemorations in 1941 and 1991, including one by Niels Bohr, and an account of his explorations by the principal author. It continues with descriptions of two hitherto unknown maps from first Kamchatka expedition. Next is an account of second Kamchatka expedition and archaeological investigations on Bering Island in 1991. Finally (126 pages) is Else Vedel's children's saga "The Story of a Ship" - the last journey of Vitus Bering.
