Record #122781:

Fettreserver hos rein / Nicholas Tyler.

Title: Fettreserver hos rein / Nicholas Tyler.
Translated title: Fat reserves in reindeer.
Author(s): Tyler, Nicholas.
Date: 1993.
Language: Norwegian.
In: Ottar. (1993.), Vol. 195(2) (1993)
Abstract: Article compares fat reserves of reindeer with those of other mammals, including seals, partially immersed animals such as polar bears, other deer and humans. Only Svalbard reindeer are significantly fatter than other non- hibernating land animals. Diagrams show annual cycle, compare lactating does with sterile does and show positions of fat storage. Individuals differ, but main use of fat reserve is not to tide over poor winter fodder so much as to carry both sexes through breeding season successfully.
