Record #122780:

Lav, rein og radioaktivet / Eldar Gaare.

Title: Lav, rein og radioaktivet / Eldar Gaare.
Translated title: Lichen, reindeer and radio-activity.
Author(s): Gaare, Eldar.
Date: 1993.
Language: Norwegian.
In: Ottar. (1993.), Vol. 195(2) (1993)
Abstract: Article explains relationship between annual variation of reindeer feed, radio-active fall-out introduced to plants by precipitation and concentration of dangerous isotopes in meat. Half-life of fission products makes different elements hazardous at different periods after accident (or nuclear test). Graph shows seasonality of Chernobyl disaster very clearly for two districts. Two important concepts are biological half-life, usually considerably shorter than the physical, and ecological half-life, between the two. Topography of landscape can make significant difference to concentration of fission products in lichen.
