Formation of Denmark Strait overflow water by mixing in the East Greenland Current / Volker H. Strass, Eberhard Fahrbach, Ursula Schauer, Lutz Sellman.
Title: | Formation of Denmark Strait overflow water by mixing in the East Greenland Current / Volker H. Strass, Eberhard Fahrbach, Ursula Schauer, Lutz Sellman. |

In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1993.), Vol. 98(C4) (1993) |
Abstract: | Hydrographic data and current meter records from East Greenland Current collected 1987-1989 near central Greenland Sea reveal formation of water mass with temperature, salinity and density characteristics of Denmark Strait Overflow Water (DSOW). Downstream (SW) flow of this mass can be half DSOW and results from isopycnic mixing of recirculated Atlantic water and Upper Arctic Intermediate water. Substantial formation occurs in conditions of instability and eddies, varying from year to year. |
