Record #122655:

Structural characteristics and development of sea ice in the western Ross Sea / Martin O. Jeffries, Wilford F. Weeks.

Title: Structural characteristics and development of sea ice in the western Ross Sea / Martin O. Jeffries, Wilford F. Weeks.
Author(s): Jeffries, Martin O.
Weeks, Wilford F.
Date: 1993.
In: Antarctic Science. (1993.), Vol. 5(1) (1993)
Abstract: Based on study in austral summer 1990-91, variations are described in internal structure of sea-ice cores. Snow-ice formation made small but significant contribution to ice growth. Frazil and congelation ice were common, whereas platelet ice was found in one sample only, next to Drygalski Ice Tongue. Development is as complex as in Weddell Sea and more complex than Arctic. Discusses significance of results in terms of processes and conditions that contribute to development of pack ice in this area.
