Record #122646:

Reassessment of Crete (Greenland) ice core acidity/volcanism link to climate change / Thomas J. Crowley, Tamara Criste, Neil R. Smith.

Title: Reassessment of Crete (Greenland) ice core acidity/volcanism link to climate change / Thomas J. Crowley, Tamara Criste, Neil R. Smith.
Author(s): Crowley, Thomas J.
Criste, Tamara.
Smith, Neil R.
Date: 1993.
In: Geophysical Research Letters. (1993.), Vol. 20(3) (1993)
Abstract: Crête ice-core acidity record is composite of volcanically induced spikes superimposed on background acidity of nonvolcanic origin that varies significantly in amplitude. Reanalysis to separate volcanic spikes from background variations shows that climate--volcanism correlation is much less marked than previously concluded. Good correlation previously reported is due to background acidity levels that show significant increase during Little Ice Age; this may reflect changes in ocean productivity.
