Record #122572:
Translated title: | Dilatometric variations of calcareous rock cylinders due to freeze-thaw cycles. |
Author(s): | Prick, Angélique. Pissart, A. Ozouf, Jean-Claude. |
Date: | 1993. |
Language: | French. |
In: | Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1993.), Vol. 4(1) (1993) |
Abstract: | Variations in diameter and length of cylinders show occurrence of intricate and non-isotropic variations in dimensions of rocks. These result mainly from migration of non-frozen water within samples, and migrations towards largest pores or towards faces of sample first exposed to freezing front are responsible for contractions in areas where expansions were expected. Experiments show importance of water content and porosity of rocks, of cooling rate, and of small variations in experimental conditions. |
Notes: | Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. Vol. 4(1) :1-15 (1993). English abstract, p. 1. |
Keywords: | 551.34 -- Geocryology. Frozen ground. 551.342 -- Frost shattering. E8 -- Glaciology: frost action and permafrost. |
