Record #122566:

Plant and arthropod remains from the palaeo-Eskimo site on Qeqertasussuk, West Greenland / Jens Böcher, Bent Fredskild.

Title: Plant and arthropod remains from the palaeo-Eskimo site on Qeqertasussuk, West Greenland / Jens Böcher, Bent Fredskild.
Author(s): Böcher, Jens.
Fredskild, Bent.
Date: 1993.
In: Meddelelser om Grønland. Geoscience. (1993.), Vol. 30 (1993)
Abstract: Samples from site settled ca. 3,900-3,100 ¹⁴C years BP on a raised beach were analysed for pollen and botanical and entomological macro-remains. Original vegetation of dwelling area was grasses and Saxifraga; of midden it was Elymus mollis. Different grasses dominated in uninhabited periods. After habitation ended, mossy heath spread over area. Sediments held many well preserved bits of insects and other arthropods, some species at or well north of present limit. Succession agrees with other evidence. Lake pollen shows Salix glauca followed at ca. 6,400 ¹⁴C years BP by Betula nana, with more cool/humid conditions near 3,000 BP, agreeing with general Holocene trend.
