Polyunsaturated fatty acids in Antarctic bacteria / David S. Nichols, Peter D. Nichols, Tom A. McMeekin.
Title: | Polyunsaturated fatty acids in Antarctic bacteria / David S. Nichols, Peter D. Nichols, Tom A. McMeekin. |
Author(s): | Nichols, David S. Nichols, Peter D. McMeekin, Tom A. |
Date: | 1993. |
In: | Antarctic Science. (1993.), Vol. 5(2) (1993) |
Abstract: | Screening of 38 strains of Antarctic bacteria for ability to produce polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) revealed proportion able to produce PUFAs higher than that found for temperate marine bacteria, highlighting potential of Antarctic bacteria for industrial PUFA production. Fatty acid composition of Flectobacillus glomertus discussed in relation to other closely related Antarctic flavobacteria. Fatty acid composition also examined as chemotaxonomic tool to aid with identification of Antarctic bacteria. |
