SPOT multispectral data and digital terrain model for the analysis of ice-snow fields on Arctic glaciers / J.F. Parrot, Nicolas Lyberis, Bernard Lefauconnier, Geoff M. Manby.

Title: SPOT multispectral data and digital terrain model for the analysis of ice-snow fields on Arctic glaciers / J.F. Parrot, Nicolas Lyberis, Bernard Lefauconnier, Geoff M. Manby.
Author(s): Parrot, J. F.

Date: 1993.
In: International Journal of Remote Sensing. (1993.), Vol. 14(3) (1993)
Abstract: Satellite data present extensive shaded zones arising from combination of low Sun elevation and mountainous topography. Field radiometry measurements from two glaciers, east Brøggerbreen and central Lovénbreen, Spitsbergen, discriminate different surface states. SPOT reflectance values have been corrected using slope orientation and dip parameters from digital terrain model combined with Sun elevation and azimuth. Reflectances of shady and illuminated zones have been restored to new image based on XS3 versus XS1 bidimensional histogram. Firn and superimposed ice on glacier surfaces can be distinguished, and boundary between them located on median and longitudinal profile of glacier by combining new image and digital terrain model.
