Reproduction and mortality of Finnish semi-domesticated reindeer in relation to density and management strategies / T. Helle, I. Kojola.

Title: Reproduction and mortality of Finnish semi-domesticated reindeer in relation to density and management strategies / T. Helle, I. Kojola.
Author(s): Helle, T.
Kojola, I.
Date: 1993.
In: Arctic. (1993.), Vol. 46(1) (1993)
Abstract: Intense reindeer management in 1960s and early 1970s suffered wide annual fluctuations in numbers. In mid-70s dried hay supplement spread rapidly, except north of timber line, with calf harvest replacing harvest of yearling and adult males. Data of study derived from Finnish National Forest Inventory and archives of Association of Reindeer Herders. Result of change is greater meat production, but over-utilisation of natural ranges.
