| Abstract: | Study of MS=6.8 shallow earthquake occurring in area previously showing no seismic activity. Investigates factors controlling localization and seeks to contribute to knowledge of causes of intraplate earthquakes. Evaluates location of earthquake and aftershocks, and determines depth and focal mechanism. Includes presentation of seismic reflection profile in vicinity of epicentre finding evidence for recently active faults consistent with earthquake location and focal mechanism. |
