Abstract: Presents ecological inventory of Svalbard coast and maps areas of greatest biological importance based on sample survey carried out 1985-1991 in 242 localities. 37 macrofauna and 22 macrophyte taxa identified as littoral zone inhabitants. Describes four main littoral assemblages: Fucus-Balanus, Gammarus, Onisimus and Oligochaeta communities.
