Abstract: Describes results of investigation of distribution of particulate matter and nitrogen uptake measurements, conducted during massive Phaeocystis bloom. Discusses controls of particulate matter accumulation. Also presents simple mass balance of nitrogen assessing magnitude of bloom's activity and hypotheses for fate of biogenic material and mechanism for particle removal.
