Abstract: Tests hypothesis proposed by Findlay (1856) and Brown (1860) that Franklin may have sailed south from Beechey Island to King William Island down McClintock Channel rather than through Peel Sound and Franklin Strait. Reports archaeological surveys carried out along this route in 1982 without discovery of any structures or materials associated with Franklin.
