Record #122272:

Local contact pressures in ship/ice and structure/ice interactions / D.M. Masterson, Robert M.W. Frederking.

Title: Local contact pressures in ship/ice and structure/ice interactions / D.M. Masterson, Robert M.W. Frederking.
Author(s): Masterson, D. M.
Frederking, Robert M. W.
Date: 1993.
In: Cold Regions Science and Technology. (1993.), Vol. 21(2) (1993)
Abstract: Data on local ice pressures and forces were compiled. Primary sources were controlled indenter experiments and ship trials. Loads and average local pressures on areas up to 7 m² were examined. All data were plotted on basis of average pressure versus contact area. Similar trends of decreasing pressure with increasing contact area were observed for all data sets. In order to extrapolate data to larger contact areas, measurements on structures with contact areas greater than 100 m² were reviewed. Data for larger contact areas indicate that trend of decreasing local ice pressures levels off at larger areas. Based on all data examined, design curves for local ice pressures on structures were suggested.
