Record #122152:

Evidence for heterogeneous reactions in the Antarctic autumn stratosphere / J.G. Keys, P.V. Johnston, R.D. Blatherwick, F.J. Murcray.

Title: Evidence for heterogeneous reactions in the Antarctic autumn stratosphere / J.G. Keys, P.V. Johnston, R.D. Blatherwick, F.J. Murcray.
Author(s): Keys, J. G.
Johnston, P. V.
Blatherwick, R. D.
Murcray, F. J.
Date: 1993.
In: Nature. (1993.), Vol. 361(6407) (1993)
Abstract: Presents measurements of Antarctic stratospheric NO₂ and HNO₃ concentrations taken in 1991 at Arrival Heights, results from which demonstrate that reactive nitrogen was converted to HNO₃ in autumn, before temperatures were low enough for polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) to form. Attributes conversion and attendant potential for additional autumnal ozone loss to heterogeneous chemistry on background aerosols.
