Preferential use of organic nitrogen for growth by a non-mycorrhizal Arctic sedge / F. Stuart Chapin, III, Lori Moilanen, Knut Kielland.

Title: Preferential use of organic nitrogen for growth by a non-mycorrhizal Arctic sedge / F. Stuart Chapin, III, Lori Moilanen, Knut Kielland.
Author(s): Chapin, F. Stuart,
Moilanen, Lori.
Kielland, Knut.
Date: 1993.
In: Nature. (1993.), Vol. 361(6408) (1993)
Abstract: Reports rapid absorption of free amino acids by field-collected roots of Eriophorum vaginatum accounting for at least 60% of nitrogen absorbed by species in field. Claimed first documentation of preferential absorption and use of organic nitrogen by non-mycorrhizal vascular plant. Field study conducted at Toolik Lake, northern Alaska.
