| Abstract: | Finnish scientific life and university politics make it difficult to ascribe Centre, but it can variously be attributed to Jean Malaurie, Helsinki or Oulu and its university, who seem to have forgotten their role in it. Kustaa Vilkuna wrote in paper "Kaleva" about possible "Arctic Institute", 1972, and took it up again in 1978. Kyösti Julku is said to have blurted out "in Rovaniemi, of course", greeted with derision. Competition for Arctic Museum kept design within Finland. It finally became Centre and separate institute within University of Lapland. |
