Record #121278:

Tracing upper waters of the Nansen Basin in the Arctic Ocean / Leif G. Anderson, E. Peter Jones.

Title: Tracing upper waters of the Nansen Basin in the Arctic Ocean / Leif G. Anderson, E. Peter Jones.
Author(s): Anderson, Leif G.
Jones, E. Peter.
Date: 1992.
Publisher: Oxford: Pergamon Press
In: Arctic deep-sea research - the Nansen Basin section. (1992.),
Abstract: Measurements of tracers obtained during 1987 cruise across Nansen Basin are used to suggest flow of upper waters in Arctic Ocean. On surface total carbonate concentrations distinguish between northern freshwater component from rivers and southern sea ice meltwater. Sub-surface water formed in Barents-Kara Seas with low concentrations of NO must divide, some flowing with Atlantic layer to east and north before flowing in same direction as Transpolar Drift to Fram Strait, and some flowing to west and south. Former characterises lower halocline water seen at CESAR and LOREX ice camps in central Arctic Ocean. Latter can be traced to Fram Strait where two meet and two low NO waters merge.
