Record #120819:

Improvements to TOVS retrievals over sea ice and their application to estimating Arctic energy fluxes / Jennifer A. Francis.

Title: Improvements to TOVS retrievals over sea ice and their application to estimating Arctic energy fluxes / Jennifer A. Francis.
Author(s): Francis, Jennifer A.
Date: 1992.
Publisher: Boston, MA: American Meteorological Society
In: Third Conference Polar Meteorology and Oceanography, 29 Sept-2 Oct 1992, Portland, Oregon. (1992.),
Abstract: Use of Tiros-N operational vertical sounder (TOVS), which has been flown on polar-orbiting satellites since 1978, has been restricted mainly to unfrozen ocean because processing algorithms did not perform well over snow and ice. Here, methods to improve accuracy of TOVS retrievals in winter polar conditions are described and applied to estimation of surface radiative fluxes, turbulent fluxes, and horizontal advection from lower latitudes.
