Record #120745:

Ethnicity and traditions in northern Fenno-Scandinavia. "Finns and Terfinns" ten years after / Knut Odner.

Title: Ethnicity and traditions in northern Fenno-Scandinavia. "Finns and Terfinns" ten years after / Knut Odner.
Author(s): Odner, Knut.
Date: 1992.
In: Acta Borealia. (1992.), Vol. 9(2) (1992)
Abstract: Author re-states his original belief on ethnogenesis of Saami people: that ethnicity emerged around Birth of Christ in southern Finland. He faces problems of using language as ethnic marker, deplores "formalist" approach as closing communication between anthropology, linguistics and archaeology, defends his approach as consistent with that of historic linguistics and of known economic relationships between Norwegian chiefdoms and Saami and states his understanding of early farming methods. He finally contrasts two cultural systems in a game-like model which describes ethnic encounters to this day.
