Abstract: Title, from 1910, concerns Aleksander Kuchin, very gifted Russian seaman-explorer, who was lost when only 25 years old on a voyage in the Arctic. He had served on Norwegian ships, studied nautical subjects at Bergen, smuggled revolutionary tracts to Archangel and been on Amundsen's Antarctic expedition. He was lost when he went as oceanographer on Rusanov's research in Svalbard area, having just become engaged to Aslaug Paulson from Bergen.
