| Abstract: | Compares grain size, grain shape and composition of sediment pellets obtained from cores from Norwegian and Greenland seas and from Nansen Basin with same properties of sediments collected directly from surfaces of sea ice in Nansen Basin and from icebergs in Barents Sea. Showed that sediment pellets are more similar to sediments from icebergs than to those from sea ice. Suggests that pellets may be formed on, in or under glacier or entrained in keel of iceberg as it drags on sea bottom. Pellets are then transported in iceberg until it overturns or melts and pellets fall out. |
