Abstract: Two-dimensional thermohaline circulation model was applied to various cavity configurations beneath ice shelf, using observed hydrographic conditions at ice front. One objective was to determine what environment beneath ice shelf could reproduce accumulated layer of marine ice 158 m thick at G1 site on ice shelf. Concurs with suggestion that G1 ice core may have been taken in basal crevasse filled with marine ice that was formed from water cooled by ocean/ice-shelf interactions along interior ice-shelf base.
