Author(s): Rahola, T.
Jaakkola, Timo.
Suomela, M.
Tillander, M.
Date: 1992.
Publisher: Rovaniemi: Arctic Centre, University of Lapland
In: Symposium on the State of the Environment and Environmental Monitoring in Northern Fennoscandia and the Kola Peninsula, October 6-8, 1992, Rovaniemi, Finland - Extended abstracts. (1992.),
Abstract: Radionuclides have two sources, natural and artificial, the latter coming mainly from atmospheric testing, with boost following Chernobyl accident. Strontium (Sr) is transported to bone, caesium (Cs) to muscle, so the greater danger in food for man. Most effective food chain is lichen-reindeer-man. Study gives peak years of caesium-137 in lichen (Cladonia), values in male reindeer herders and compares with men in southern Finland, also values of total dose from radio caesium, other artificial radionuclides and natural sources 1955-85.
