Abstract: Procedures for monitoring United States forest health, to be extended to Alaskan boreal forests, are offered as basis for world-wide monitoring of boreal forests. Aim is to answer question of whether there is a problem of forest health, if so, how serious and what to do? Indicators need to respond early, to be robust, repeatable and inexpensive. On international scale need to be agreed by governments as well as scientists and to be consistent from one country to the next.
