Impacts of pollution on freshwater communities in the border areas between Russia and Norway / T. Nøst, and 6 others.
Title: | Impacts of pollution on freshwater communities in the border areas between Russia and Norway / T. Nøst, and 6 others. |
Author(s): | Nøst, T. |
Date: | 1992. |
Publisher: | Rovaniemi: Arctic Centre, University of Lapland |
In: | Symposium on the State of the Environment and Environmental Monitoring in Northern Fennoscandia and the Kola Peninsula, October 6-8, 1992, Rovaniemi, Finland - Extended abstracts. (1992.), |
Abstract: | Joint study by Russia and Norway 1990-92 of freshwater biota showed negative impact on population structure of fish in all lakes studied in Russian areas with accumulation of heavy metals in organs. Acid-sensitive species were recorded in Pechenganickel area, however, as bedrock has very high buffer capacity, and some fallout is alkaline. Fecundity of a calanoid zooplankton species, Eudiaptomus graciloides, seems sublethally affected by nickel (Ni) |
Notes: | In: Symposium on the State of the Environment and Environmental Monitoring in Northern Fennoscandia and the Kola Peninsula, October 6-8, 1992, Rovaniemi, Finland - Extended abstracts / Eero Tikkanen, Martti Varmola, Tuija Katermaa, eds. |
