| Abstract: | Geochemical mapping of ground water and streams in 1978-90 by Finnish and Norwegian Geological Surveys delineated thoroughly the geological controls of water quality. Rock types include mafic, limestone and granite. Acid deposition from Petsamo, Kola Peninsula and Russian Kareliya not blatant - north-eastern Finnish Lapland has quite high Ph values with inactive silicate rock. One possible exception is north-east of Lake Inari, where sulphur and heavy metals fall out and alkalinity is low. |
