Present-day periglacial microforms in the Lesotho Highlands: implications for present and past climatic conditions / Patricia M. Hanvey, Margaret E. Marker.
Title: | Present-day periglacial microforms in the Lesotho Highlands: implications for present and past climatic conditions / Patricia M. Hanvey, Margaret E. Marker. |
Author(s): | Hanvey, Patricia M. Marker, Margaret E. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1992.), Vol. 3(4) (1992) |
Abstract: | Thufa, terracettes, stone polygons and patterned ground have been identified near Tlaeeng Pass (3275 m a.s.l.). Ground ice is evident in winter, also pebbles perched on needle ice up to 5 cm in length. Largely attributed to diurnal freeze--thaw cycles from late autumn to early spring. More extensive periglacial activity probably occurred in past, but past moisture regimes are difficult to project. |
Notes: | Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. Vol. 3(4) :353-361 (1992). |
