Record #119735:

The fractal geometry of thermal and chemical time series from the active layer, Alaska / Samuel I. Outcalt, Kenneth M. Hinkel.

Title: The fractal geometry of thermal and chemical time series from the active layer, Alaska / Samuel I. Outcalt, Kenneth M. Hinkel.
Author(s): Outcalt, Samuel I.
Hinkel, Kenneth M.
Date: 1992.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1992.), Vol. 3(4) (1992)
Abstract: Data sets used were observations of soil temperature and soil water ionic concentration collected in August 1991 from Caribou--Poker creeks watershed and thermal records of 1984 active-layer freezeback from Toolik Lake. Strong fractal geometry and low fractal dimension in "brown--black noise" realm characterize conduction-dominated system. During periods of strong internal distillation, fractal geometry breaks down and fractal dimension frequently passes through "pink noise" region into "white noise" realm. Therefore, "fractal metric" is useful datum for analysis of these time series.
