Abstract: Saami is best described as group of languages, closely related to Finnish. Several have been written, but most developed and used is language of Polmak, Karasjok and Kautokeino - North Saami today. Special sounds and aspects of grammar are described, including "verb of negation". Topographical words clarify map names. Example is given of rich set of near-synonyms of "slå" (cf English!). One root may have up to 400 derivatives. Konrad Nielsen and Johan Turi are quoted passim.
