Record #119690:

Climate and glacier change: the dilemma of the representative station / Melvin G. Marcus, Frederick Burns Chambers, Anthony J. Brazel.

Title: Climate and glacier change: the dilemma of the representative station / Melvin G. Marcus, Frederick Burns Chambers, Anthony J. Brazel.
Author(s): Marcus, Melvin G.
Chambers, Frederick Burns.
Brazel, Anthony J.
Date: 1992.
Abstract: Debates value of micrometeorological data recorded at single so-called "representative stations", based on investigations during 1986-87 at West Gulkana Glacier, AK. Weather observations and ablation were sampled throughout this sub-Arctic alpine locale, and full array of microclimatic measurements was observed over snow, slush, ice and alpine tundra. Results indicate use of representative stations can be effective, achieving their greatest potential when filtered for spatial and temporal variability and when microscale observations are linked to mesoscale and synoptic levels.
