Record #119649:

Sampling requirements / Alan S. Thorndike.

Title: Sampling requirements / Alan S. Thorndike.
Author(s): Thorndike, Alan S.
Date: 1992.
Publisher: Seattle, WA: University of Washington, Applied Physics Laboratory, Polar Science Center
In: Report of the Sea Ice Thickness Workshop, 19-21 November 1991, New Carrollton, Maryland. (1992.),
Abstract: Discusses problem of handling variables required in determining sea-ice thickness. Suggests that sampling demands can be reduced considerably by (1) estimating mean and variance of thickness, rather than full thickness distribution, (2) reducing spatial sampling, and (3) reducing temporal sampling. Most appropriate method will depend on scientific objectives. Several examples are given.
