Abstract: Measurements made in Vermont during 1991-92 winter. Results suggest that source areas are best defined by field accounting of thermal mechanisms in snow/soil/stream system. These mechanisms have marked effect on internal snowmelt processes, relative flow paths of surface, subsurface and groundwater, and total outflow to stream.
