Record #119480:
An airborne millimeter-wave FM-CW radar for thickness profiling of freshwater ice / Norbert E. Yankielun.
Title: | An airborne millimeter-wave FM-CW radar for thickness profiling of freshwater ice / Norbert E. Yankielun. |
Author(s): | Yankielun, Norbert E. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | CRREL Report. (1992.), Vol. 92-20 (1992) |
Abstract: | Describes development of prototype system, employing real-time data acquisition and digital signal processing techniques and operating at frequencies of 26.5 to 40 GHz. Thickness resolution is better than 3 cm±10%. System was tested on ground and from helicopter at heights of up to 7 m above surface. Ice sheets between 3 and 35 cm thick, with and without snow cover, on ponds and rivers have been profiled. Results show direct correlation between radar and borehole thickness measurements. |
Notes: | CRREL Report. Vol. 92-20 :viii, p.1-77 (1992). |
Keywords: | 551.32 -- Glaciology. 551.321 -- Glaciological methods and instruments. 551.321.61 -- Ice sounding, geophysical methods. 621.396.96 -- Radar. 53.087.23 -- Remote sensing. 551.326 -- Floating ice. 551.326.8 -- Ice on inland waters. E3 -- Glaciology: instruments and methods. |
