Record #119474:

Perennial névés and the hydrology of rock glaciers / Geneviève Tenthorey.

Title: Perennial névés and the hydrology of rock glaciers / Geneviève Tenthorey.
Author(s): Tenthorey, Geneviève.
Date: 1992.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1992.), Vol. 3(3) (1992)
Abstract: From 1986 to 1990 water was traced in three rock glaciers in upper Val de Réchy, Switzerland. Results show different patterns of circulation depending on size and degree of activity of rock glacier. Two showed rapid superficial flow and one had slow interstitial flow; these are analogous to supra- and subglacial flow. Intraflow was also observed in one case. Importance of perennial névés at "roots" of rock glaciers was demonstrated. Meltwater supplies risings, and, by refreezing, probably also increases ice mass of rock glacier.
Notes:

Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. Vol. 3(3) :247-252 (1992).

Keywords: 551.34 -- Geocryology. Frozen ground.
551.343.4 -- Rock glaciers.
