Abstract: Time-dependent coastal jet (= type of current) model assuming simple geometry and wind condition is proposed to predict coastal current in shallow waters close to coast and trajectories of drifting objects such as ice floes. Linearized equations with variable viscosity coefficient, which depends on turbulent structure, is solved by finite element method. Model simulates successfully observed contour parallelism of coastal current and ice-floe movement.
