The formation of glacial flutes: assessment of models with evidence from Lyngsdalen, north Norway / John E. Gordon, W. Brian Whalley, Anne F. Gellatly, Diana M. Vere.

Title: The formation of glacial flutes: assessment of models with evidence from Lyngsdalen, north Norway / John E. Gordon, W. Brian Whalley, Anne F. Gellatly, Diana M. Vere.
Author(s): Gordon, John E.

Date: 1992.
In: Quaternary Science Reviews. (1992.), Vol. 11(7-8) (1992)
Abstract: In this region, flutes are associated with glaciers with cold-based margins. Three sets of variables were investigated: flutes themselves, and their shapes, dimensions and field relationships; physical properties of materials comprising them; and glacier properties, particularly basic thermal regime and ice--debris relationships at glacier margin. Proposes model in which flutes are primary features formed by deformation of basal ice around subglacial boulders or other obstacles.
