Record #119293:

Internal waves and mixing in the Arctic Ocean / Eric A. D'Asaro, James H. Morison.

Title: Internal waves and mixing in the Arctic Ocean / Eric A. D'Asaro, James H. Morison.
Author(s): D'Asaro, Eric A.
Morison, James H.
Date: 1992.
In: Deep-Sea Research. Part A, Oceanographic Research Papers. (1992.), Vol. 39(suppl. issue 2A) (1992)
Abstract: Reports exploration of variability of internal wave shear levels in eastern Arctic Ocean using velocity profiler and CDT data from Fram Strait and Nansen Basin Reports shear levels consistently low over abyssal plains and higher over rougher topography. Applying Gregg parametrization to these data gives diapycnal diffusivities. Extrapolating these to whole Arctic Basin suggests that internal wave mixing could play major role in transporting heat from warm intermediate water to surface. Internal wave generation by barotropic tide on rough topography may explain higher shear levels there.
