Record #119246:
Engineering in Quaternary sediments: case studies from western Europe and eastern Asia / Edward Derbyshire.
Title: | Engineering in Quaternary sediments: case studies from western Europe and eastern Asia / Edward Derbyshire. |
Author(s): | Derbyshire, Edward. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | Quaternary Proceedings. (1992.), (2) (1992) |
Abstract: | Formerly glaciated terrain contains complex sedimentary associations, which are source of variations in geotechnical properties. Best presented as three-dimensional process models, to which should be added evidence of secondary processes such as erosion, deformation and diagenesis. Efficiency with which site engineering works proceed is influenced more by nature and location of site data and theoretical framework in which it is set than by volume of data. Examples suggest presence and accurate diagnosis of constructional landforms influence sampling and theoretical understanding in terrestrial glacial situations, and that sites underlain by glacial, lacustrine and aeolian sediments continue to pose sampling and modelling problems in site development. |
Notes: | Quaternary Proceedings. (2) :33-48 (1992). |
