Computation of a snowpack-loss component for a water-budget model for the San Juan aquifer basin in New Mexico and Colorado / Scott D. Waltemeyer, John M. Kernodle.
Title: | Computation of a snowpack-loss component for a water-budget model for the San Juan aquifer basin in New Mexico and Colorado / Scott D. Waltemeyer, John M. Kernodle. |
Author(s): | Waltemeyer, Scott D. Kernodle, John M. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | Western Snow Conference. Proceedings. (1992.), Vol. 60th Annual Meeting (1992) |
Abstract: | Precipitation component of model uses average-basin mean annual winter precipitation (May to September precipitation is considered lost to evapotranspiration). Streamflow component is derived by regression relations based on drainage area and mean annual winter precipitation for three physiographic regions. Snowpack-loss component is derived by defining relation of peak snowpack water content to total precipitation for given altitude. Snowpack loss ranged from 27 to 57% for altitudes of 3048 and 2286 m, respectively. |
