| Abstract: | Describes snow survey network set up by EDF (French national electricity board) in order to forecast snowmelt for water management. Consists of 240 manual gauging sites at altitudes between 800 and 2700 m in Alps, Pyrenees and Massif Central. Describes new automatic gauge, telenivimeter, which can be used daily to measure density of different layers of snow, snow depth, and temperature, and thus deduce water equivalent. |
